(redirected from raise the ante)- What is the definition of a 'steal raise'? In poker, a 'steal raise' occurs when a player who is in late position puts in a raise in an attempt to take down the pot right then and there. If the steal raise doesn't get everybody out of the pot, it will usually at least thin out the number of people in a hand.
- Open Raise If a hand is begun with a raise in the first betting round, this is called an openraise. So if all players fold in e.g. Texas Hold'em to the player in cutoff position and he raises instead of just paying the big blinds, then the cutoff player has made and open raise.
Raise (someone) (an amount) In poker and other gambling games, 'raising' someone means betting even more than they did. For example, imagine that Player A bets two dollars. Player B 'raises' Player A one dollar, so the bet is now three dollars in total: I'll see your two and raise you one.
